🔖 Technique Notes

Tori and Uke face each other seated in Seiza. Tori combines the mechanics of the arm drag and Te Makura. He takes Uke’s wrist and hand in Ai Hanmi Katate Dōri, and places his other hand on the outside of Uke’s elbow, with the thumb positioned along the inner elbow fold.
He then applies the Te Makura mechanics—using the Shihō Nage arm torque together with a downward drop at the level of Uke’s elbow—to unbalance Uke and bring him to the ground in a Te Makura, with Uke’s head positioned on his own folded arm in a Shihō Nage–like position. As Uke is brought down, Tori ends up behind him, in an advantageous position from which he can transition into back takes or establish side control.
