🔖 Technique Notes
Uke and Tori face each other, seated in seiza. Tori delivers an atemi to Uke’s face, and as Uke raises his arm to defend, Tori makes contact with it—one hand at the elbow and the other at the wrist. He then cuts Uke’s arm to the inside at a 45° angle. During the cut, the Men Uchi contact hand slides to seize Uke’s fingers, after which Tori transfers the grip to the other hand, capturing the blade of Uke’s hand to establish a Sankyō wristlock. The Sankyō wristlock allows Tori to control Uke’s shoulder through the locking of the elbow and wrist, so as he cuts down with Uke’s hand, it drives Uke to fall belly down, lowering his shoulder first to the mat. To pin, Tori places his knee on Uke’s triceps while keeping Uke’s hand elevated, maintaining the wristlock and shoulder control.
