Suwari Waza – Sumi Otoshi / Hiji Otoshi from Ikkyō

Uke and Tori face each other on their knees (Suwari Waza). Uke strikes Men Uchi, and Tori steps forward with his lead foot, making contact at the wrist with one hand and at the elbow with the other, then cuts down, performing Ikkyō Omote without further entering.
He then steps on the inside with his rear foot, raising the hand gripping Uke’s elbow—transitioning from an elbow grip to a Gi grip at the same level—while releasing the other hand. This raising of Uke’s arm follows Uke’s natural attempt to rise after the initial Ikkyō downward cut.
As Tori steps in, he slides back to sit on the ground and pivots on his bottom and upper thigh to face the opposite direction, passing under Tori’s arm, ending with the same leg forward at the conclusion of the pivot. As he passes under, he cuts down on Uke’s arm using the elbow Gi grip, throwing him. Tori maintains control as Uke falls, transitioning into an Ude Garami pin.
