Tai Otoshi from Uchi Kaiten Nage
🈲 Forbiddenness : 🍃 Advanced
In this Henka Waza, Guillaume Erard Sensei begins from an Uchi Kaiten position. The hand controlling the back of Uke’s head grips his lapel as Tori allows Uke to rise, using that momentum to swing his leg in a backward-and-upward motion that contacts Uke’s thighs, while the lapel hand moves forward and downward. Unlike the Kodokan Judō Tai Otoshi, where Tori plants the leg as a static barrier, here the leg moves dynamically to execute the throw. This leg motion resembles a Judō's Ashi Guruma, as it swings backward and upward to pivot Uke. Nevertheless, the technique can still be considered a Tai Otoshi because the hands play the primary role in projecting Uke, or at least as an intermediate variation, relying on the coordinated action of both hand and leg movements.
