🔖 Technique Notes

Uke and Tori meet in a Men Uchi contact. Tori steps to the outside and advances, lowering his arm and allowing Uke to seize the wrist and begin moving behind him to establish Ushiro Ryōte Dōri. However, before Uke can secure the second arm, Tori moves that arm out of reach, raises the captured arm, and sidesteps to pass under it. This draws Uke forward, causing him to step in front of Tori as Tori passes beneath his own arm.
Tori then controls Uke’s neck with his free hand by gripping the collar from behind (Ushiro Eri Dōri) and performs a Tenkan pivot to turn in the opposite direction, bringing Uke’s head with him and beginning to break his posture. Once Uke’s head is aligned on Tori’s centerline, Tori drops into a horse stance and extends the arm controlling the neck downward, driving Uke’s head toward the ground and forcing him onto his side. As Uke falls, he releases the wrist grip.
With Uke on the ground, Tori transfers the collar grip to his other hand, maintaining control. He then rises, allowing Uke to come back up, and uses this upward momentum to step off-line, bringing his lead leg slightly behind his rear leg. As Uke rises, Tori pulls him toward his own side using the collar grip, as if guiding Uke to step past him. When Uke is positioned alongside him, Tori inverts the direction of motion and, using the collar grip, pushes downward while using his rear leg to sweep both of Uke’s legs from behind, executing a throw similar to Jūdō's Ō Soto Guruma, but controlling the back of the collar instead of the front lapel.
