🔖 Technique Notes
This technique blends Aikidō’s Kote Gaeshi with Judō’s Harai Goshi. In this sequence, Tori grabs Uke’s hand with both hands in a Kote Gaeshi-style grip, thereby locking the wrist. When executed properly, this grip not only twists the wrist but also enables control of the entire arm’s joint chain—from wrist to elbow to shoulder—effectively unbalancing Uke. Tori then executes the throw using Harai Goshi mechanics while maintaining wrist control, ensuring continued control as uke falls to the ground. Care must still be taken, as improper movement can place stress on Uke’s arm if Tori does not move with them during the fall.
