🔖 Technique Notes
As Uke grabs Tori’s lapel and sleeve in Sode Eri Dōri (as in a classic Jūdō Kumikata), Tori steps slightly back with his lead leg to align it with his rear leg, creating space and avoiding being drawn into a grappling situation, and then steps forward delivering a knee strike to the inside of the thigh of Uke’s lead leg to unbalance him, essentially stepping through Uke's leg. Tori then places his lead hand on Uke’s face and his rear hand on the inside of Uke’s lead elbow (he can also grab Uke's sleeve). In one continuous circular motion, he raises the hand on Uke’s face and then lowers it between his own legs on his centerline as he drops his body into a horse stance, while simultaneously pulling and dropping the arm at the elbow. The combined circular action of the arms (pushing with one hand and pulling with the other) together with the body turn and drop unbalances and throws Uke to the ground.
