Nodo Osae – Gichin Funakoshi Rentan Goshin Tōde Jutsu Variation (1925) – Ian Abernethy Technical Reconstruction – Sweeping Pivot Throw Variation

Uke and Tori stand facing each other in mirrored guards, both with the right leg forward. Uke initiates the attack with a lead-hand Jōdan Tsuki. Tori intercepts the punch from the inside using the palm of the lead hand, then immediately relays the contact to the back of the rear hand while stepping inward on the inside line. Simultaneously, Tori seizes and presses against Uke’s throat with the lead hand.
By driving into the throat/neck, Tori forces Uke’s weight backward onto the rear leg. As Uke’s balance shifts rearward, the lead leg becomes temporarily light and easier to control. Tori then lowers the rear hand to seize Uke’s ankle from above while maintaining continuous pressure on the throat with the lead hand.
Unlike the version shown in Rentan Goshin Tōde Jutsu, Tori does not immobilize Uke’s rear foot by stepping on it. Instead, to complete the throw, Tori pivots, turning his back to Uke while placing the lead leg across Uke’s rear leg as a blocking barrier. This turning motion disrupts Uke’s remaining base and functions as a trip, resulting in Uke being thrown to the ground.
