🔖 Technique Notes

Uke and Tori are in a North–South position, with Uke on his back and Tori on top, maintaining chest-to-upper-torso contact, their heads facing in opposite directions. Tori is not perfectly aligned but positioned diagonally across Uke’s torso. Uke frames with his arms to prevent full control.
From this position, Tori slides his outside arm over Uke’s neck to secure a cross-lapel grip for a choke. Uke reacts by grabbing Tori’s hand to block the grip. Tori uses this reaction by sliding back his hand to seize Uke’s hand instead. He then guides Uke’s hand toward the ground while simultaneously pushing forward and downward on the elbow with his other hand.
This brings Uke into a position similar to the end of Shihō Nage, with the elbow pointing upward and the head resting against the arm. From there, Tori continues to drive the tricep forward and down, increasing pressure and creating a tricep-to-hip extension that stretches Uke’s side, preventing Uke from rolling or escaping. Tori can reinforce the control by placing his rear knee on Uke’s armpit.
From this control, Tori can finish with either a Kamakubi / Gokyō wristlock-pin-like wristlock—by placing Uke’s wrist or knuckles on the ground and pressing down on the elbow to compress the joint—or an Ude Garami / Americana, by pulling Uke’s wrist outward along a line perpendicular to the arm (or slightly backward) while controlling or driving the elbow forward.
