🔖 Technique Notes

Tori is kneeling beside Uke, who is on his back, controlling the hand with both hands while Uke’s arm is folded in the Shihō Nage position—essentially the same as at the end of a Shihō Nage. From this position, Tori can continue the Shihō Nage cut by drawing the arm along the line of the joint, then increasing the pressure by pushing on Uke’s tricep, driving the elbow forward until the upper arm becomes horizontal and aligned with Uke’s body. He then continues to press the elbow down and forward, adding further pressure.
This continued extension stretches Uke’s side from the tricep down to the hip. Uke may try to relieve the pressure by lifting the hips, but Tori can prevent this by applying a knee-on-belly with his rear knee.
