🔖 Technique Notes
As Uke attacks Shōmen Uchi with a Tantō held in Gyakute (reverse grip), Tori steps forward on the centerline, raising both hands along the centerline before they separate: his rear hand meets the attacking arm on the inside to deflect it, while he place his lead hand palm under Uke’s chin as in an Irimi Nage variation (Irimi Nage Palm-on-Chin Variation). This extends Uke’s head backward and thus lifts and drives Uke backward, unbalancing him onto his toes as he arches to remain standing. To complete the takedown, Tori slightly withdraws the lead foot and then steps more deeply to the outside with it. In the same movement, he grabs the sleeve of Uke’s outside arm with his free hand and delivers a downward elbow strike with the lead arm (the one that was on Uke’s chin) to Uke’s throat, dropping his bodyweight into the strike as he steps, which brings Uke down.
