🔖 Technique Notes

As Uke launches a wide haymaker, Tori steps forward on the centerline, raising both hands: his rear hand stops the attacking arm, while his lead hand places the palm under Uke’s chin, extending the head backward and unbalancing him to the rear. From this position, Tori wraps his rear arm around Uke’s attacking arm, passing under the elbow to lock it and control the arm under his armpit. He then places his lead hand, which was under Uke’s chin, onto Uke’s lead shoulder. Tori completes the control by gripping his own arm at the elbow, and can overextend Uke’s elbow by lifting it as he extends the arm that controls Uke’s shoulder. He then relieves the pressure, keeping his arm around Uke’s arm without locking the elbow, maintaining control under his armpit with the hand on Uke’s tricep. He then moves his other hand from Uke’s shoulder to Uke’s inside cheek, turns Uke’s face to the outside, and in one continuous movement cuts downward as he drops the knee on the side of the cutting hand to the ground, bringing Uke down.
